Product Introduction

Magnesium Oxide Board for Resilient Construction

Magnesium Oxide Board (commonly known as MGO Board) is one of the core panels for resilient construction. Made from natural minerals and reinforced with fiberglass, it integrates Class A1 fire resistance, excellent waterproofing, high strength & impact resistance, weather durability, and environmental friendliness. It greatly improves structural resilience and safety redundancy under extreme conditions such as fire, flood, earthquake, high humidity, and corrosion. It is a high-performance green building material that replaces gypsum board, wood-based panels, and cement boards.

Extreme Fire Resistance (Class A1 Non-Combustible)

  • Fire rating: Class A1 non-combustible (ASTM E84/UL 723: flame spread index 0, smoke index 0; EN 13501-1 Class A1)
  • Temperature resistance: Stable at 800°C for 2–3 hours without burning, melting or dripping; no discoloration or structural failure at 750°C for 30 minutes
  • High-temperature behavior: Forms a dense ceramic isolation layer to block fire; no smoke, no toxic gas
  • Value: Ideal for hospitals, schools, malls, data centers, steel structures requiring high fire resilience
02/

Superior Waterproof & Moisture Resistance

  • Water absorption: Only 0.34% (much lower than gypsum board ~3%, wood panels >15%)

Magnesium Oxide Board for Resilient Construction

1. Basic Definition & Core Composition

Definition

  • An inorganic non-combustible panel mainly made of high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO) as the cementitious phase, stabilized with magnesium chloride / magnesium sulfate (MgCl₂/MgSO₄) and water, reinforced with medium-alkali fiberglass mesh, filled with perlite, plant fiber, lightweight aggregates, etc., through modification, compounding, and curing.

Core Composition (Asbestos-Free, Formaldehyde-Free, Radiation-Free)

  • Cementitious material: High-purity active MgO (melting point 2852°C, stable at high temperature), MgCl₂/MgSO₄ (setting adjustment & reinforcement)
  • Reinforcement: Medium-alkali fiberglass mesh (improves bending / impact toughness, prevents cracking)
  • Fillers: Perlite, lightweight ceramsite, plant fiber (lightweight, thermal insulation, toughening)
  • Modifiers: Polymer, anti-halogenation agent (solves halogenation and corrosion of traditional MGO)

Standard Sizes (For Modular Resilient Construction)

  • Standard dimensions: 1220×2440mm, 1200×2400mm, 910×1800mm; max length 3660mm, max width 1220mm
  • Thickness: 3–25mm (commonly 6/8/10/12/15mm for walls, ceilings, floors, fire compartments)
  • Edge types: Square edge, chamfered edge, T&G edge, overlapping edge (for fast installation and sealing)
  • Density: 0.85–1.27g/cm³ (lightweight and high-strength, reduces building dead load)

FAQ

Q: What is Magnesium Oxide (MGO) Board?

A: MGO Board is an inorganic, non-combustible building panel made from magnesium oxide, fiberglass mesh, and mineral fillers. It is specially designed for resilient construction with high fire resistance, waterproofing, strength, and durability.

Q: Why is MGO Board ideal for resilient construction?

A: It provides Class A1 fire resistance, excellent waterproof & moisture-proof performance, high impact and seismic toughness, long service life, and is mold-free, termite-free, eco-friendly, making buildings safer and more disaster-resistant.

Q: What fire rating does MGO Board achieve?

A: MGO Board reaches Class A1 non-combustible (ASTM E84, EN 13501-1), with zero flame spread and zero smoke emission. It can maintain structural integrity under high temperatures for long periods.

Q: Is MGO Board waterproof and suitable for humid areas?

A: Yes. It has very low water absorption, does not soften, expand, or rot when wet. It is widely used in basements, bathrooms, coastal buildings, and flood-prone areas.

Q: Can MGO Board replace gypsum board, cement board, and wood panels?

A: Yes. MGO Board outperforms them in fire performance, water resistance, impact strength, and service life. It is a high-performance replacement for interior and exterior applications.

Q: What are the main applications of MGO Board?

A: It is used for walls, ceilings, floors, firewalls, emergency passages, data centers, schools, hospitals, prefabricated buildings, and structures requiring high resilience and safety.

Q: How does it compare to cement board in terms of stability and strength?

A: It outperforms cement board with 1/3 the linear expansion coefficient (0.04-0.06%) and higher bending strength (16-27 MPa). It's also lighter, easier to install, and resists moisture better than cement board.

Q: Do you offer customized sizes or edge profiles for large-scale projects?

A: Yes. We support customization of thickness (6-15 mm), length (2400-3000 mm), and edge profiles (square, bevelled, tongue-and-groove). Minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom specifications is 1×20ft container.
