1. What Makes It Fire-Resistant

The fire resistance of MgO board comes from two key things: its materials and its structure.

First, it's made of inorganic minerals-stuff like magnesium oxide (MgO) and magnesium chloride (MgCl₂) or magnesium sulfate (MgSO₄). These materials don't burn at all. Magnesium oxide, for example, melts at a super high temperature-2800°C. Unlike wood or plastic, it won't catch fire, melt, or give off flammable gases when it's really hot.

Second, when these materials go through the "magnesium-oxygen reaction," they form a hard, dense structure that doesn't break down easily in high heat. Plus, there's a glass fiber cloth layer inside that keeps the board intact, so it doesn't warp from the heat and lose its ability to block fire.

Heat release: The total heat from burning it is no more than 2.0 MJ/kg, and each part of the material releases no more than 1.4 MJ/kg. That's way lower than flammable materials-wood, for example, releases about 15 MJ/kg. So it barely gives off any heat when it's exposed to fire.

Smoke control: When it gets really hot and either burns or breaks down, it produces almost no smoke. And it doesn't release toxic fumes like formaldehyde or carbon monoxide-that's super important for fire safety, since low smoke and no toxicity can save lives.

High-temperature and flame resistance: If there's an open flame or really high heat (around 800-1000°C), MgO board won't catch fire, melt, or drip. It can stay intact for a long time. If you pair it with keels and fireproof cotton, it can last even longer.

Less secondary harm: Compared to gypsum boards or regular fireproof boards, MgO board doesn't release toxic gases when it's hot. That means fewer people get hurt or die from smoke inhalation in fires, making it safer overall.
