Premium MGO SIP Panels For Modular Buildings

Premium MGO SIP Panels for Modular Buildings

Premium MGO SIP Panels are high-end composite structural insulated panels specially engineered for modular construction. Featuring Class A fire resistance, superior structural strength, rapid installation and ultra-low energy consumption, they serve as the core structural and envelope solution for modern modular buildings worldwide.

1. Definition & Core Composition

Premium MGO SIP, short for Magnesium Oxide Structural Insulated Panel, generally features a traditional sandwich-style structure.

Its face sheets are typically made of high-purity MGO boards, which are mainly produced with magnesium oxide, magnesium sulfate, high-density fiberglass mesh and perlite through high-pressure curing. These panels help provide decent structural support, fire resistance and long-lasting durability.

For the insulation core, it usually uses high-density rigid insulation materials such as EPS, PU/PIR, XPS and rock wool, which offer good thermal insulation and sound absorption effects.

The whole panel is compounded via cold-press technology. In terms of edge design, tongue-and-groove (T&G) or flat joint styles are commonly adopted, making on-site installation and sealing more convenient.

2. Advantage

2.1 Fire Performance (Core Strength)

Fire Rating: Generally rated as A1 non‑combustible, which is among the highest fire safety levels.Fire Resistance: Shows excellent fire stability, with little to no combustion at around 1200°C and maintains its form without melting at 800°C.Fire Endurance: Typically achieves over 2 hours of fire resistance, meeting major international fire standards including NFPA 285.Smoke Property: Produces very little smoke, is generally non‑toxic, and rarely releases molten drips during a fire.

2.2 Structural & Mechanical Performance

These panels offer strong flexural and compressive strength, so they can often be used directly for load‑bearing walls, roofs and floor slabs, and can partially replace traditional frame structures.Wind & Earthquake Resistance: Designed to withstand strong winds up to around 230 mph (370 km/h) and deliver reliable seismic performance.Lightweight: At roughly 12–18 kg/m², the panels are relatively lightweight, which helps reduce overall building load and can lower foundation costs significantly.

2.3 Thermal & Energy‑saving Performance

Thermal Resistance: Can reach an R‑value as high as about R55, performing much better than many traditional wall materials.Thermal Conductivity: The insulation core usually has a thermal conductivity of 0.03–0.05 W/(m·K), providing excellent thermal insulation.Energy Efficiency: Helps cut building energy consumption by an estimated 50%–70%, which can greatly reduce heating and cooling expenses.Air Tightness: The close‑fitting assembly helps reduce thermal bridges and supports more stable indoor temperature and humidity.

2.4 Durability & Environmental Friendliness

Moisture & Mold Resistance: Features high water repellency (generally above 98%), low water absorption, good dimensional stability, and strong resistance to mold growth.Pest & Corrosion Resistance: Naturally resistant to termites and corrosion, with a service life that can often reach 50 years or more.Health & Eco‑friendly: Typically free of formaldehyde, VOCs, asbestos and heavy metals, with very low harmful emissions, meeting most green building requirements.Low Carbon: Relatively low energy consumption in production, recyclable, and helps support low‑carbon and sustainable construction.

2.5 Sound Insulation

Acoustic Performance: A 50mm‑thick panel can usually reduce noise by 35–45 dB, satisfying common acoustic requirements for residential and commercial buildings.

3. Standard & Customizable Dimensions

Standard Size: The most common size is 1220mm × 2440mm (4×8 ft), and custom lengths up to about 10 meters are available.Face Sheet Thickness: Generally ranges from 3–20mm; premium panels often use 8–12mm thickness.Overall Panel Thickness: Typically 50–300mm, with 100–150mm commonly used for walls and 150–200mm for roofs.Edge Treatment: Options include tongue‑and‑groove, flat joint and sealed edge, allowing for quick and convenient on‑site installation.

4. Core Advantages in Modular Construction

4.1 Ultra-fast Construction (Highlight Value)

  • Most MGO SIPs are prefabricated in factories, which helps ensure relatively consistent quality and higher dimensional accuracy compared with on-site construction.
  • On-site installation is mainly dry operation, with no wet trades like cement plastering required. This can often greatly improve installation efficiency, and the main building envelope can usually be finished in a short period.
  • Since the panel integrates structural support, insulation, fire performance and enclosure in one, it generally reduces the need for extra on-site insulation, fireproofing or plastering works.

4.2 Wide Application in Modular Projects

  • This type of panel is quite adaptable and can be used in a variety of modular building scenarios:
  • Residential modules: apartments, hotels, homestays, container houses, villas and similar residential buildings
  • Commercial modules: offices, exhibition halls, shops, temporary pavilions and other commercial spaces
  • Public modules: schools, hospitals, isolation rooms, camps, data centers and public facilities
  • Special modules: clean rooms, cold storages, explosion-proof buildings, offshore platforms and special-purpose structures

4.3 Lifecycle Cost Benefits

  • Labor saving: On-site labor requirements can often be significantly reduced, which helps lower overall labor costs.
  • Time saving: The whole construction period is usually noticeably shortened, allowing the project to be put into use earlier.
  • Low maintenance: The panels generally require little regular maintenance, with low operating energy consumption and a relatively long service life, helping to control long-term costs.
