Application & Selection Knowledge of MGO Board

Feb 02, 2026

In the industry, MGO boards are divided into three categories according to density and performance: light-weight partition type, load-bearing baseboard type and moisture-proof special type, with clear industry rules for selection:

  • Standard boards with a density of 0.8~1.0g/cm³ are the most cost-effective choice for ordinary indoor partition walls;
  • Moisture-proof modified and hydrophobically treated boards must be used in wet areas (basements, bathrooms);
  • High-strength boards with a density of 1.1~1.3g/cm³ are required for external wall baseboards and fireproof cladding of steel structures.

Ordinary MGO boards shall not be confused with traditional glass magnesium boards and Magnesium Sulfate Oxychloride (MSO) boards. MSO boards have better water resistance but higher cost, while traditional glass magnesium boards are prone to halogen return and efflorescence, and have been gradually replaced by modified MGO boards. Board models and inspection reports shall be matched one by one for project acceptance.
